MAUD is a dark fantasy story set in a world that went through something terrible and never fully healed. A sunless land where the dead return every night, and people keep going not because they believe in happy endings, but because giving up would mean losing the little warmth that still exists. Between ordinary humans and gods who return weakened and changed, the story explores resistance, difficult choices, human bonds, and the kind of hope that rises even from ruins — not as a promise, but as a necessity. MAUD is the first book in a seven-volume saga, developed over more than 20 years by Brazilian author L. L. Junior, who has lived in the UK since 2005. The book was officially launched at Comic Con Liverpool and is part of a much larger universe, with prequels and side stories already planned. The saga is now crossing the ocean so keep an eye for it.

Maud: Heirs to a Broken Age really surprised me in the best way. The world-building is rich, dark, and genuinely unique, and the story
pulls you in from the first chapter. L. L. Junior’s writing is atmospheric without being heavy, and the characters feel real and easy to connect with.
If you enjoy fantasy with depth, mystery, and strong vibes, this one is
    definitely worth picking up.

  • A work of art! ★★★★★

Recently, L. L. Júnior got in touch with me to offer early
access to Maud. And honestly? A work of art. I cannot wait to show this
    book to the world.

Maud: Heirs to a Broken Age is an epic fantasy filled with blood, battles, hope, and gods walking among humans.

Now let me tell you a little about the story (no spoilers, of course): imagine
a completely frozen world—bitterly cold—where life has been forced to adapt. A
world so cold that sunlight no longer reaches it. And you might think living in
endless ice is the only problem here… but no. There is also an unstoppable army of the undead. And as if that were not enough, six gods fall into this world
with no memories whatsoever. They have no idea who they are or why they are there.

You all know I always end up choosing a favourite character, right? In this book, Drunnyak completely stole my heart. I won’t spoil anything, but there is one chapter centered on him that utterly shattered me.
When I spoke to the author about it, he told me he spent two days shaking
because he couldn’t step out of the character.

Despite all of this, the book is incredibly emotional and deeply human—and in many moments, genuinely funny. Throughout the entire reading experience, I felt completely immersed in the story. Júnior’s writing
holds you from beginning to end.

  • ‘’The book ‘MAUD – Heirs to a Broken Age’ surprised me right from the beginning.
As I write these words, I’ve had the privilege of reading the Prologue
and the first chapter, entitled ‘The Awakening’.

From the little I’ve read so far, it’s already clear to me the quality that author L. L. Junior brings to this work, imprinting
power and magnetism into a narrative so rich in detail that it fully immerses
    us in the story.

‘MAUD’ is a literary work whose signature clearly reflects the author’s talent, creativity, and sensitivity. Much like J. R. R. Tolkien with ‘The Lord of the Ring’s” it makes us understand why it is
so difficult and challenging to bring a work of such complexity, depth, and
artistic richness to the cinema screen.

I am eager to continue reading and to enjoy the story all the way through!’’

Drunnyak, The Colossus - Drunnyak is raw, overwhelming physicality—strength untempered by armor or ornament. Towering above mortals, clad only in lionhides, he is a force of nature unleashed upon the battlefield. His laughter is as thunderous as his rage, yet beneath the brutality lies a simple heart: protective, honest, and deeply loyal. Drunnyak does not scheme or deceive. He endures, strikes, and stands his ground. When walls must fall and fear must break, he is the answer. When the world must break something to survive, he is what it breaks.

Aneeve “Niv” , The Silverblade - Niv is speed, grace, and defiance given form. An elven warrior of unmatched agility, she fights without shield or hesitation, her blades flashing like shards of moonlight. Beneath her confidence and sharp wit lies an ancient burden—an old power bound to her very essence, meant to restrain gods themselves. Fiercely loyal and openly passionate, she is utterly unwilling to bow, even when the truth of her nature demands sacrifice. Niv is freedom bought at a terrible cost. She who will not kneel, even when the chains were forged for gods.

Alentar , God of the Hunt - Alentar is the embodiment of pursuit, patience, and lethal precision. The greatest hunter Maud has ever known, he moves through the frozen world as if it were an extension of his own body—leaping from dead trees, loosing arrows mid-air, and striking before his prey ever understands it is being watched. Quiet, observant, and relentless, he is driven not by cruelty but by duty. To Alentar, the hunt is sacred: a balance between life, death, and necessity. Among the gods, he is the watcher at the edge of the fire—always seeing, always waiting. He who sees before he strikes, and strikes before he is ever seen.

Nashir, God of Nature - Nashir is the quiet breath of the world itself. Where others wield power through force or steel, he restores, nurtures, and endures. His connection to Maud is profound—vines rise at his call, roots remember ancient paths, and portals bloom from living earth. Calm and compassionate, he is often underestimated, yet his power is vast and patient. Nashir believes life must be protected, even when the world itself seems determined to rot. Where life still remembers how to grow, his will has already passed.

Taril , Born of Stone and Will - Taril is the anvil upon which civilizations are forged. Massive, unyielding, and resolute, he embodies craftsmanship, defiance, and protection. His warhammer and shield bear the marks of ancient oaths—mountains split, chains broken, gold flowing like fire. Taril does not bend, retreat, or forget. To him, creation is an act of rebellion against ruin, and defense is the highest form of love. When all walls fall, he remains.

Opilkhos, The Knight of the Eight - Opilkhos is honour sharpened by suffering. A knight bound to eight divine forces, he stands as both shield and sword—stoic, disciplined, and unwavering. His resemblance to Harinnil is no coincidence, and it is a burden he carries in silence. Where others rage or despair, Opilkhos endures. He believes in oaths, in defense, and in standing between darkness and those who cannot fight it themselves. He stands where darkness ends, not because he must—but because he will.

Harinnil , The Lost One - Harinnil is what remains when divinity rots. Once a god, now something far darker, he is bound to undeath, decay, and betrayal. Gaunt, silent, and terrifyingly composed, he commands without words and corrupts without mercy. His presence chills the air and twists the land itself. Harinnili's not chaos—he is intention, patience, and inevitability. He is the shadow cast by the gods’ greatest failure, born after they believed they had won the war against their own father. Not the end of hope, but the proof that victory can still rot.

MAUD is not a book. It is a myth.
